Jewels is a matching game which will put your planning and pattern recognition skills to the test.
The rules of Jewels are simple: you swap adjacent jewels (horizontally or vertically) to create combinations of three or more jewels of the same type. Once matched, the jewels are removed and the remaining jewels above it slide down to take their place. The challenge comes when there are few potential matches to find, and you must pick your next move carefully or risk eliminating remaining matches when the jewels shift down. If that's not challenge enough, then consider playing the timed mode where you race against a relentlessly decreasing timer and each successful match adds just a bit of time back to the clock.
If you cannot find a match, use the Hint feature to show you the next move. The game keeps track of your ten best scores for both Easy and Timed modes, so you can see just how much the pressure of the timer affects your performance!

JEWELS is a great Match-3 game reminiscent of Bejeweled...the mother of the Match-3 game craze. The way th1s game plays on a Kindle is about as good as you could get considering the limited size for game files. Controlling the cursor to make matches is quite easy. Use the 5-way controller to move to the jewel you want. The cursor even wraps around when you reach the end of a column or row. Once you reach the jewel of your choice, press the center of the 5-way. The jewel will show four direction arrows. Press the 5-way for the direction you want the jewel to move, in order to swap its position with another jewel. The swap will occur, your 3-or-more jewel match will be formed, and your points will accumulate. This is pretty much the same as most Match-3 type games. Basically, you've got a grid of jewels, and can swap two adjacent jewels if that will line up 3, 4, or 5 jewels, destroying them. Jewels does an adequate job on the Kindle. The grayscale gems are mostly distinguishable from each other, and the basic swap-2-gems mechanic is there. However -- this game loses virtually all of the clicky appeal. Instead of 2 quick mouse clicks (on a PC) or stylus taps (on a DS), 8 or so clicks are needed on the 5-way to get the selector over to the gem, then 3 more clicks to do the swap. The basic premise is the same and you will have multi-levels drop if you match the right 3 jewels. I liked that the game does have a dropping visual effect, but I dislike having to use the 5-way controller to swap jewels. It works about as good as it possibly could with the limitation of the Kindle. I would rather play this game on a color device as an app-- maybe on the new Kindle Fire when it comes out!::UPDATE:: I tried to find my Kindle Games listed on my new Kindle Fire thinking I would try this one in color.
